Land Ho!

Friday, March 15, 2019 – I was up early today, so got the first peek of land around 7am and another beautiful sunrise.  The land mass on the port side of the ship is Chile and on the starboard side, it’s Argentina!  The birds were out in droves as we approached the entrance to the Beagle Channel.  Albatross, Petrels, Gulls and many more that I couldn’t identify.  After breakfast there was a pod of dolphins a hundred yards or so from the ship, jumping and playing, following us for several minutes.

The diobolical Drake gave us little grief this trip, whew!!

We left the South Shetlands earlier than the original plan, as there was a storm brewing that could have made sailing the Drake a lot more difficult.  Therefore, we have arrived back in Ushuaia about 14 hours earlier than planned.  Passengers remain on board tonight and disembark early in the morning.

Coming in to port in Ushuaia, I noticed this ship and realized it was in
Puerto Vallarta in early February when I was there with my friend, Jill!

This cruise has been so incredibly beautiful… I will have some reflections to post after I get home and process everything I’ve done and seen, and yet, there’s still almost another week to go.  Three days in Ushuaia and three days in Buenos Aires before I fly home.
